Cantor Dies At 68 After Heart Attack

 

 Rites For Hirsch Gornicki Will Be Today

 

 

   Cantor Hirsch Gornicki, who was stricken with a heart attack at 7:15 Friday while conducting the regular Friday evening service at Beth El Emeth Synagogue, died at 2 p.m. yesterday at Baptist Hospital.  He was cantor of the synagogue.

   Cantor Gornicki, who was 68, had been with Beth El Emeth 12 years.  He lived at 404 Ellsworth.

   Services will be at 3 p.m. today at the synagogue.  Burial will be in Beth El Emeth Cemetery with Memphis Funeral Home in charge.

   Born in Poland, he spent most of his life there.  He came to this country 14 years ago.

   Cantor Gornicki wrote the liturgy and was director of the synagogue choir.

   He also supervised the slaughtering of cattle to make sure beef sold to the Jewish people here had been butchered in the approved religious manner.

   He leaves his wife, Mrs. Chaya Gornicki,  of the Ellsworth address.
