Gus Haase Dies Following Heart
Attack
Gus J. Haase, prominent Memphis
realtor, died following a heart attack Sunday morning at this home, 300 Hawthorne.
Mr. Haase, a lifelong Memphian, was born in Memphis 56 years ago. He was the owner and founder of the realty
company bearing his name, and was associated with Marx and Bensdorf
Realtors several years prior to founding his company in 1943. He was a nephew of the late Charlie J. Haase, former president of Marx and Bensdorf.
Mr. Haase was a leader in many of the major real estate
developments in Memphis, including the Crosstown development, the Colonial Shopping Center
at White Station, and the Park-Plaza
Shopping Center, now
under construction. He was graduated
from Phillips Exeter
Academy at Exeter,
N. H., and attended the Universities of Illinois and Texas.
He was a pilot in
World War I and though too old to be taken in the armed services during World
War II, he volunteered for the Merchant Marine and served on a number of
dangerous missions. He was a member of
the Variety Club.
Surviving are his
wife, Mrs. Louise Jones Haase and a son, Charles J. Haase, a student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology
in Boston.
Services were held
Monday afternoon with interment in Temple
Israel Cemetery.
