Nathan Kappel Succumbs

Nathan Kapell, retired dry goods merchant and leader in Anshei Sphard Congregation, died Saturday morning at his residence, 620 North Manassas.

Mr. Kapell, a charter member of Anshei Sphard, of which he was president and secretary for many years, was believed to have been the last living charter member of the congregation.  He was honorary secretary at the time of his death and had devoted much of his life to the congregation.

Mr. Kapell was born in Russia 77 years ago and had made his home in Memphis for the past 55 years.

Surviving are his four sons, H. D., Abe, H. H. and John Kapell, a daughter, Mrs. Lena Fuerstein, all of Memphis; and two sisters, Mrs. Sara Kamen and Mrs. Lena Foreman, both of New York City.

Services were held Sunday afternoon at the residence with Rabbi Morton Baum officiating.  Interment was in Anshei Sphard Cemetery.
