Jake Katz Succumbs
Jake Katz, of
Marked Tree, Ark., formerly of Memphis, died Saturday morning at Baptist
Hospital, Memphis.
Services were held Sunday morning at Abraham Memorial Chapel with Rabbi
David Skopp officiating. Interment was in Baron Hirsch
Cemetery.
Mr. Katz was born
in Russia 74 years ago and
came to Memphis
in 1905. He was in the produce business
here before entering the grocery business in Marked Tree. He was a member of Baron Hirsch Congregation,
Anshei Sphard Congregation
and B’nai B’rith.
Surviving are his
wife, Mrs. Mary Katz, two daughters, Mrs. Frank Cohen of Memphis
and Mrs. Irving Lipsey
of Lepanto, Ark.; two sons;
Sam Katz, of El Paso, Texas and Victor Katz, of Marked Tree; four stepdaughters, Mrs. Sol Cohen and Mrs. Willie
Taylor, of Forrest City, Ark.; Mrs.
Bertha Schwartz, of Memphis and Mrs. Fannie Watson, of New Orleans; two brothers, Sam Katz and W. V. Katz, of
Memphis; a sister, Mrs. Freida Petrovsky, of
Memphis; thirteen grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
