Solomon Kivel Succumbs
Solomon Kivel, who owned the jewelry firm, S. Kivel
& Co., in the Commerce Title Building,
passed away Wednesday, at Baptist
Hospital.
Mr. Kivel was born in Russia 65 years ago. He formerly lived in New
York City and had been in business in Memphis for the past 16 years. He was a member of B’nai B’rith Congregation
and the United Friends in New York
and was a Mason and a Shriner. At the time of his death, he made his home at
the Claridge Hotel, but he had formerly lived on Washington Street
for a number of years.
Mr. Kivel is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred Kivel, of New York; his son, Morton Kivel,
of Tyler, Texas, his daughter, Mrs. Irving Kraus, of Brooklyn, N. Y.; his
brother, Charles Kivel, of Memphis, his three sisters,
Mrs. Bessie Levitch of Memphis; Mrs. Louis Hirsch and
Mrs. Sam Glass, of Brooklyn, and two grandchildren.
Services were held
Friday morning with Rabbi Isadore Goodman and Cantor
Hirsch Gornicki officiating. Interment was in Beth El Emeth
Cemetery.
