Ike Levey Succumbs
Ike Levey, who was
seriously ill at Baptist
Hospital when his son,
Capt. Ben Levey, retired fire chief, passed away, died Tuesday after a long
illness.
Mr. Levey was born
in Russia 88 years ago and
came to the United States
at the age of 18. He had made his home
in Memphis for
the past 39 years. Until his retirement
in 1931, he operated the Polk Street Bargain Store at 728 Polk. His home was at 815 Roanoke.
He was a member of Temple
Israel.
Surviving are his
son, Jack Levey of Memphis; three daughters,
Mrs. Lillian Knopp, Mrs. Joe Lipman
and Miss Rose Levey, of Memphis;
five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Rabbi Morton Baum
and Rabbi James A. Wax officiated at services held last Wednesday. Interment was in Temple Israel
Cemetery.
