Former Memphian Dies in New York
Mrs. Sallie Andrews
Menken, 77, widow of the late Nathan D. Menken, pioneer Memphis merchant, died Monday at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. George H. Andrews, in Red Bank, N. J., according to word
received her last night.
Mrs. Menken, a
native of New York,
made her home here for a number of years until her return to the east several
years ago. She had been in ill health
for several years.
Besides Mrs.
Andrews, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. E. L. Goldbaum
of Memphis, two sons, N. D. and Spanwood Menken, New York,
and a brother, G. O. Andrews, of New
York.
Mrs. Menken was
well known in Memphis. Her late husband was a member of the Howard
Association during the yellow fever epidemic here in 1878, and died a victim of
that disease.
Burial rites will
take place in New York.
