Max Meyer Nemetz Passes Away
Max Meyer Nemetz, well-known Memphis
attorney and talented musician, passed away Tuesday after a lengthy
illness. He died at his home, 871 North
Idlewild.
Mr. Nemetz had been connected with Fox-Pelletier International
Detective Agency for many years. In
1933, at the age of 23, he became office manager. Two months before his death, he resigned as
vice president of that firm.
He was born in Kazantine, Russia, 46 years ago and came to Memphis at the age of 12.
He entered Leath School
and six years later, he graduated from Humes High School.
He received his law
degree from the University of Memphis Law School and
at 21 was a licensed attorney. He
specialized in domestic law and had his offices in the Columbian Mutual Tower
Building.
He was a member of
the Memphis Bar
Association, State of Tennessee Bar
Association, Zionist Organization of America, Baron
Hirsch Synagogue and B’nai B’rith. He
served on the board of the Memphis Zionist District for more than ten
years. He worked tirelessly with local
religious, civic and charity groups and in 1938, was awarded the Adolph Abraham
Memorial Cup for outstanding work with Baron Hirsch Synagogue’s Young People’s
League.
He is survived by
his wife, Mrs. Frieda Nemetz; two daughters, Rochelle
Sonja Nemetz and Gail Lyn Nemetz;
his brother, Leon Nemetz, all of Memphis.
Rabbi Isadore Goodman officiated at services held Wednesday
afternoon at Abraham Memorial Chapel.
Interment was in Baron
Hirsch Cemetery.
